General Summary:

The HWHSD is seeking a math coach who will work directly with teachers to improve their mathematics instruction by providing targeted support, modeling effective strategies, analyzing student data, and facilitating professional development, ultimately aiming to enhance student achievement in math across the school and district level. The District Math Coach will report directly to the Executive Director of Learning Services. 

 

 

Key responsibilities of a math coach will include:

  • Classroom observations and feedback:
    Regularly visiting classrooms to observe teaching practices, analyze student engagement, and provide constructive feedback to teachers on their math instruction. Engaging in coaching cycles to improve teacher content and pedagogy knowledge.
  • Data analysis and interpretation:
    Analyzing student assessment data to identify areas of strength and weakness, pinpoint instructional gaps, and inform targeted interventions. 
  • Curriculum alignment:
    Ensuring teachers are implementing the district's math curriculum effectively and aligning instruction with state standards. 
  • Professional development delivery:
    Leading workshops, training sessions, and collaborative learning opportunities for teachers to develop their math content knowledge and pedagogical skills. 
  • Co-planning and co-teaching:
    Collaborating with teachers to develop lesson plans, model effective instructional strategies, and co-teach lessons to demonstrate best practices. 
  • Individualized coaching plans:
    Creating personalized coaching plans for each teacher based on their needs and areas for growth. 
  • Collaboration with school leadership:
    Partnering with administrators to identify school-wide math improvement goals and monitor progress towards achieving them. 
  • Supporting intervention strategies:
    Assisting teachers in designing and implementing interventions for struggling students. 
  • Promoting reflective practice:
    Encouraging teachers to reflect on their teaching practices, analyze student data, and make adjustments to improve student learning. 
  • Collaborative spirit:
    Ability to build positive relationships with teachers and work collaboratively to achieve shared goals. 

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Deep understanding of mathematics content across multiple grade levels 
  • Proven experience as a successful math teacher 
  • Expertise in effective math instructional strategies and research-based practices 
  • Strong data analysis skills to interpret student assessment results 
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with teachers and administrators 
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback and support teacher growth 
  • Familiarity with current trends in mathematics education
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Designee.

·            Close collaboration with district Curriculum/PD Coordinator and building leaders pertaining to literacy competencies, deficits, and etc.

Qualifications:

                  

     

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field

Experience: Minimum of 5 years teaching experience with at least 2 years in a coaching capacity/ A valid Professional Arkansas License.
