General Summary: The Secondary Paraprofessional will assists the teachers to achieve teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole and assists the teacher in maintaining

 appropriate classroom activities and environment so that students may learn effectively.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·         Administers, scores, and records achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students.

·         Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills introduced by the teacher.

·         Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on individual student needs, interests, and                        abilities. 

·         Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.

·         Helps students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.

·         Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.

·         Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work assigned by the teacher.

·         Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.

·         Keeps bulletin board and other classroom learning displays up-to-date.

·         Reads to students listens to students read and participates in other forms of oral communication with students.

·         Assists with large group activities such as drill work, reading aloud, and storytelling.

·         Assists students in the library.

·         Checks notebooks, correct papers, and supervise testing and make-up work, assigned by the teacher.

·         Alerts the teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.

·         Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of certified teachers.

·         Participates in in-service training programs, as assigned.

·         Performs other duties as assigned by Superintendent or the Superintendent's designee.

Contacts and Communication

Education and Experience

·         Two years of college or Associates Degree.

·         Good communication skills.
